Retrofit talks at the Building the Future Conference

Building the Future Conference 2025

AET Flexible Space was proud to sponsor the Building the Future Conference 2025. Now in its third and biggest year, the event brought together leading voices from across the built environment for a day of discussion, insight, networking, and celebration — and AET was there to partake in the future of sustainable design and retrofit, with a strong focus on innovation and decarbonisation.

A Packed Agenda

Around 600 professionals from across the built environment gathered for the conference, which featured a packed agenda of high-level discussions. Panels included Tackling the Building Safety and Competency Challenge, Meeting the Challenge of 1.5m Homes, and Navigating a Volatile Landscape on Regulation and Retrofit, among others.

High-Level Discussions Shaping the Built Environment

Representing AET, Karl Stauss, Head of Client Delivery, joined the panel Retrofit Revolution: Decarbonising the UK’s Building Stock. With 80% of the buildings that will be in use in 2050 already standing today, decarbonising the UK’s existing stock is one of the biggest — and most urgent — challenges in meeting national net zero targets. The session examined how the industry can scale up retrofit solutions across a range of building types, from homes to offices and public buildings, while addressing the unique barriers and opportunities within each.

Discussion covered how retrofit housing can be accelerated at scale while maintaining quality and engaging both residents and landlords, how commercial office retrofits can boost asset value and workplace performance with the support of landlords, tenants, and occupiers, and how public funding and partnerships can be leveraged to upgrade schools, hospitals, and local authority estates.

We have an ongoing mission to redefine workspace flexibility and its green footprint.
